Jesus Is King by Kanye West came out in 2019 after a big shift in his life. Originally, the album was supposed to be called “Yandhi,” but he scrapped it after going through a religious reawakening and recommitting to Christianity.

Around that time, he started hosting weekly Sunday Service gospel performances, which heavily inspired the album’s sound and message.

So instead of a typical rap album, Jesus Is King became a gospel-focused project about faith, God, and personal transformation, marking one of the biggest changes in his career.
